A good episode although I wasn't sure about it a first. Let's start with the Cybermen. The new design I am not sure about, it is good but I just think it is too much, it has included to much things and looks overcrowded and odd. Also I think it looks too bulky, therefore this design isn't my favourite design. I liked the fact that if a Cyberman came into difficulty it could simply upgrade and they would overcome this weakness, I thought this was a good idea as Cybermen before were let's face it pretty easy to defeat. Now they are basically unstoppable. I think this episode needed to be a two parter so that we could really get to grips with these new Cybermen, I don't think they have been shown to their full potential so hopefully we get to meet them again very soon, although I am angry that they were blown up because this means the next time wee see them half the episode will be about how the cybermen re built themselves which I honestly couldn't care less about, I want to see them like how they were in 'the age of steel'. A better way to end the episode would have been like in 'Victory of the Daleks' when they got away. I didn't like Angie and Artie at all, Artie was al right but Angie was ungrateful, if I met a man that could travel in time and space I would be little more amazed than that! I really liked Porridge in this episode I thought he worked well in this episode and discovering who he was, was a good shock. Overall great acting from Clara and the doctor, super effects and a good episode but some wasted potential.

(as requested by Kroton_28) This was a great episode and possessed everything a doctor who episode should. This is one of my favourite 'new who' episodes and easily my favourite 11th doctor episode. The plot is great and makes sense, the acting is top notch and the effects are also great. I really loved the dream lord who we found out was in fact the dark side of the doctor, Toby Jones played the character perfectly and I liked how he worked with Karen Gillan (Amy). The dream lord is probably one of the characters I would love to come back, possibly to face the twelfth doctor. There was a lot of comical scenes (Rory whacking Mrs Poggit) which as you should know I love. The comical parts were well written, witty and beautifully performed by the actors. I loved the whole idea of two worlds, one's a dream and one's reality (as it turned out both were dreams) and I liked how they did this and set it up. Overall a great funny witty episode and I would love the dream lord and Simon Nye (writer) to return. At first my thoughts on this episode was mixed, I wasn't really sure whether I liked it. After a re watch I decided it was good but it wasn't good as the Pond's last episode. To say it was their last episode it could have been better for the longest serving companions in new who with 2 and a half years under their belt, I think it should have definitely been a two parter to make it more significant. Another thing I didn't really like about this episode was the weeping angels. They have now been too overused and this has kind of ruined the impact they had when we first met them in 'blink'. Another wasted opportunity was the statue of liberty weeping angel. When I first heard the weeping angels would be in New York I instantly thought 'statue of liberty'. And I was looking so forward to the episode I was thinking it would be like 'the next doctor' with the cyberking but no. We got the face of the angel and a little thumping from the angel walking. It had so much potential and I am so angry how Moffat didn't use this. One of the things I did like was the cherubs, a genius idea and kind of brought the scary back but not enough. The acting, directing and effects were all amazing, great acting from Karen Gillan (Amy) and Arthur Darvill (Rory). Overall a great episode but there were a lot of problems with it and SO much wasted potential! I watched this last night for the third time, the first was when it was on TV, the second was when I bought the DVD which must have been a year ago and both of these times I honestly didn't appreciate the beauty of this episode so when I sat to watch it last night with understanding the beauty in mind, the beauty came out of the episode in bucket loads, my point is you have really got to watch and think when watching this episode to understand it's beauty and I think that is what makes it a great episode, possibly the best of Matt Smith era, because of the great moments like when Amy traps the doctor's tie in a car door and the doctor has to make her trust him after the broken TARDIS makes him 12 years late, this was a very special moment and I think this should happen every time the doctor regenerates I remember this also happened in 'doctor who the movie.' Another thing I think made the episode great was Matt Smith (the eleventh doctors) acting, it was just perfect. We discovered what he was going to be like with the Atraxi and we discovered his costume which suited him perfectly. Karen Gillan (Amy) and Arthur Darvill (Rory) were also brilliant but I didn't like the fact Amy was a Kissogram but I guess that was necessary for the episode. The effects on prisoner Zero and the Atraxi were Ace also the music was perfect as usual. Overall I love this episode and is one of my favourites of Matt Smith era. This is my favourite episode in all of doctor who for 2 reasons 1) It is a great plot with great characters. 2) It is just so funny! The episode Is overshadowed by the previous 'Doctor's daughter' episode and the following 'silence in the library' episode and I hate that, when such a great episode with such a great plot is overshadowed. I really enjoyed the Agatha Christie murder mystery episode I thought that really fitted with the story. Donna was my favourite character in this episode she had some really funny moments. But I also liked Fenella Woolgar as Agatha Christie who had just found her husband sleeping with another woman. Another part I liked was the Vespiform and CGI on that, I found it quite sad when the Vespiform dies. They did a very good job of making the background look very 1920's and the music was perfect. Overall I love this episode and i just can't really express in words how much I love it. I really enjoyed this episode, I didn't really like series 3 as a whole but this episode really stood out to me. We were introduced to a new companion: Martha Jones and this is how the episode started; showing Martha's life as a doctor going into work on what she thought was a normal day. Right at the beginning we see weird things going on like the doctor showing up then seeing the man in black leather suit and a motorcycle helmet (a slab, a slave of the Plasmavore). Then things really get weird, the whole hospital is transported to the moon by the Judoon. The visual effects on the moon is very good then the effects on the Judoon's spaceship is also very good the part where a Judoon Platoon walk across the moon is a brilliant sequence, it is very scary and hair raising. The acting is very good by Freema Agyeman (Martha Jones). I really liked the fact it was a kind of murder mystery by the plasmavore and we are all guessing who it could be and then we discover it was the little old lady (isn't it always). Lastly we find out that Martha's family is falling apart and she is the only one who is trying to sort everything out and the doctor saves her from that and takes her for a trip of a lifetime! Everything about the episode was great and that is why it is my favourite of series 3. This episode was the third episode of the David Tennant era of doctor who, the first (Christmas special) was about the doctor's post regeneration the second (New Earth) I thought focused on Rose more than the new doctor then this one finally focused on the new doctor, personally I think it would have been better if the swapped this episode around so that it came after the Christmas special but oh well. We had seen a little of what the new doctor was going to be like in the Christmas special (no second chances) but this episode we really began to see what he was like; we saw his love for aliens when he saw the Warewolf, we saw his love for humans when they met queen Victoria and finally we saw his love for technology when he saw the telescope (which we later find out the doctor put in his TARDIS in Journey to the centre of the TRDIS.) The parts where the Warewolf is chasing them is very exiting and scary, the CGI of the Warewolf were spectacularly done. The parts where they meet queen Victoria in the field were very weld done with the period costumes. Another thing I liked about the episode was Pauline Collins portrayal as Queen Victoria, I thought she played her perfectly, very well done to her! This episode I thought was a brilliant way to start 'new who', it introduced Rose perfectly showing how her normal, boring life was changed and that is what the whole series is about really; Roses' transition from a normal working life to someone travelling the stars. The episode was also the first time we met the 9th doctor, we don't know what made the 8th doctor regenerate (although we may find out in the 50th anniversary) but I thought Eccleston's portrayal of the doctor who had just lost his home world was amazing, if only he had stayed for longer... The story as a whole is very good, I remember when I first watched it I was only about 5 and the Autons scared me so much I never went near a shop window dummy again (and I still don't like to.) I also liked the way that for a first episode they didn't go for a story that was really complicated but they went for a simple 'invasion of Earth' story. The visual effects were also very good, when the shop explodes it looks very realistic, the directing is also very good. Another part I liked about the story was when the doctor was telling rose about who he is, it sent shivers down my spine. Overall a great way to start a new era of doctor who. |
